Scotland becomes first country to enforce a minimum alcohol price

( CNN) Alcohol in Scotland simply became more expensive as the country today pioneered a minimum expenditure per unit of alcohol.

It is the first country in the world to implement such a statute, with the Scottish authority accepting its foreword will save lives.

The new legislation names a 50 pence( approximately 70 pennies) minimum expenditure per unit of alcohol. Anyone licensed to help alcohol in the country — in shops as well as tables and eateries — will need to follow the new pricing laws.
